AA & HADP Roughnecks 2024-2025 Season Information

The Leduc Roughnecks have 4 AA teams including U11AA, U13AA, U15 AA and U18 AA.  The program details can be found on Hockey Alberta’s website - AA Hockey Model.  The U18 AA, U15 AA, U13 AA and U11AA previously competed in the now dissolved Northern Alberta Hockey League (NAHL).  The teams will now participate within the Alberta Elite Hockey League (AEHL) AEHL. All 4 teams will play a 32 game regular season plus a Regional Playoff Tournament.

The Leduc Roughnecks are zone-based teams and the recruitment area is comprised of 7 different Minor Hockey Associations including: Leduc, Calmar, Drayton Valley, Millet, Thorsby, Warburg and Winfield.  Leduc Minor Hockey is the host and governs all teams.  One practice each week is held within our draw zone.

Leduc Minor Hockey has the following volunteers tasked with overseeing the AA Roughnecks.  The 5 volunteer positions make up the Leduc Roughnecks AA Committee.

  • Senior AA Director - Dean Charpentier
  • 4 AA Level Directors
    • U18 AA Director - Kevin Konelsky
    • U15 AA Director - Charley Langston
    • U13 AA Director - Erik Nosyk
    • U11 AA Director - Corey Schwab

The AA Roughnecks is a program within the Leduc Minor Hockey Association and is supported by the LMHA Board of Directors, Policies & Procedures, Regulations and Bylaws.  The LMHA Board is comprised of volunteers and supported by paid staff - Administrator and Financial Administrator.

AA Roughnecks Season Plans

The Roughnecks AA Program provides athletes with an opportunity to play at a level that fosters skill development and focuses on helping athletes advance to the next level, bridging the gap between grassroots programs and AAA.  The teams partner with contracted resources to support the Coaching Staff in developmental areas which could include, but are not limited to:

  • Individual Skill Development
  • Power Skating
  • Goaltender Development
  • Team Tactics
  • Defensive Skill Development
  • Off Ice Hockey Skills Training
  • Off Ice Strength and Conditioning Training

Skill Development, Power Skating and Goalie Coach will be hired by each team.  Weekly practices will be focused on individual skill development with the other regularly scheduled practice Coach led and team focused.

AA Roughneck Fees

  1. LMHA Base Fees - These fees are set annually at the LMHA AGM and reflect the base amount to play hockey in LMHA in a specified age division.  These fees reflect one hour of practice per week and the cost to participate in a recreational league.
  2. LMHA Level Adjustment Fees - These fees are calculated in October/ November by the LMHA Finance Committee and reflect the additional costs to train for and participate in the Association's highest levels of its divisions.  These costs include items such as practice ice in excess of one hour, higher league fees, higher cost of referees for elite level games, team equipment and extra socks.  Once approved these fees are communicated and are typically due in December.
  3. Team Fees - These fees are specific to the operations of the team.  Team fees cover costs of the following items including additional development, team extra ice, tournament entries, buses, team clothing, off-ice training and coach honorariums if required.  These fees are budgeted prior to the start of the season and an estimated amount will be communicated to families before the tryouts.

Teams and parent groups do have an opportunity to support the team and lower player fees by reducing Team Fees through fundraising and corporate sponsorship programs.
