Risk Management

RISK MANAGEMENT
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Consists of 4 basic steps:
1.) Identify the risks connected with an activity
2.) Assess the relative significance of all on-ice and off-ice risks.
3.) Eliminate or minimize identified risks.
4.) Provide protection against unavoidable risks.

Each team should have with them at all times Arena Safety Checklist and Canadian Hockey Injury Report forms. If you need copies of either of these contact any member of the LMHA executive. The Arena Safety Checklist should be filled out if a hazard is identified and needs correction immediately or just needs to be brought to the arena attendants attention so that
the situation can be dealt with at a later date. The Canadian Hockey Injury Report should be filled out anytime a participant is injured.

Fair Play Means Safety for all

When is my child safe? What is emotional, physical or sexual abuse? What is hazing? What do I do if a child or youth tells me he/she is being harassed? What happens when a report is made? If any of these questions have caused concern to a participant in our organization please see the handouts located at the back of your binder. Any incidents should be reported to any member of the LMHA executive. Anyone that has taken items from their first aid kits should return the kit to the risk
management coordinator for refilling. A complete kit can be issued while yours is being refilled.

Canadian Hockey Safety Program

The ultimate goal of the program is for all hockey trainers, volunteer managers and coaches to implement effective risk management programs with their own teams where safety is the first priority at all times, both on and off the ice.
